Organic Abstraction
ARTIST STATEMENT
Organic Abstraction examines the hidden beauty within the final stages of the life cycle through a macro lens, revealing the intricate world of decaying food—a process often overlooked or deemed unappealing.
While these images are rooted in familiar objects—a wilting cabbage leaf or a shrivelled mushroom—I am not interested in capturing them in their perfect, original state. Instead, I focus on their process of change, and how their surfaces transform into new textures and colours. The photographs function as a bridge between the recognisable and the abstract, inviting the viewer to see the familiar in an unfamiliar way.
By highlighting the microbial and fungal growths that sculpt these new forms, I present the process of decay not as an end, but as a period of profound and unexpected creation. Organic Abstraction invites us to discover beauty in imperfection and to appreciate the artistry of nature's ultimate expression.
